Is The Union Of Any Value Any Longer?

A recent guest column in the Detroit Free Press points out what I've been saying for some time now, simply that unions are not currently of much value to workers. The writer makes some very valid points about wages, job protection, and worker's voices being heard. Some reading this article will quibble with the author over his postition with what will be termed a "right wing" organization, but you can't argue with the facts he lays out in his argument. The UAW has in recent years agreed to a two tier pay system, massive layoffs, and worker buy outs all in an attempt to maintain their hold on workers. Read the article here and see if you don't agree http://www.freep.com/article/20140309/OPINION05/303090055/Matt-Patterson-Volkswagen-Chattanooga-UAW The current UAW reminds me of horror films when I was a child, like the Wolfman they were scary once upon a time, but now that I'm an adult they don't scare me anymore.
